Evaluation
The City
has already taken action on the first two of the HIA’s implementation
recommendations. In February 2008,
the City released an RFP for the creation of a City-wide Transportation Plan,
including a Bicycle and Pedestrian Element to promote physical activity.
In addition, the TCHD and the Department of Public Works are in the
process of submitting a proposal to City Council to co-fund a Transportation
Study on Derby’s main transportation corridor, 72nd Ave.
Among the issues that the study will assess are traffic calming
recommendations that were developed by the transportation consulting firm hired
by TCHD for the HIA. Assuming the
Corridor Study is completed in 2008, it will be the basis for Capital
Improvement Project budget requests as early as 2009.
It is clear that the HIA is influencing the way Commerce City approaches
the redevelopment of the Derby District.
